Greece Travel Guide: 6 days in Greece. Fira, Milos, Santorini-Oia

Ever since we got married, Daniel and I have been dreaming of visiting the beautiful country of Greece. In August of 2021, we booked our tickets and flew out to the most gorgeous country to finally chase one of our dreams!

We spent 6 days visiting 2 islands in Greece, which included Milos and Santorini-Oia.

I don’t know why we waited so long to go because I already can’t wait to go back!

*Fun Fact - there are hundreds of cats all around the islands, so if you’re a cat person, you will be in heaven! My husband made some cat friends there, haha.

Now, on to all the details about our trip! Enjoy!

Fira - 1 day

Milos - 2 days

Oia - 3 days

Day 1: Fly into Fira

We booked our flights from Sacramento to Fira with a layover in Paris.

Our hotel provided transportation, so once we landed in Fira, we were greeted by them and were taken to the hotel right away. The place we stayed at is called Nautilus Dome, named after the famous volcano dome. It was a super cute place with amazing views across the street! We loved the breakfast they brought to the room in the morning. It felt so homey.

The same evening the driver from our hotel took us downtown. There were so many spectacular views and amazing restaurants with Greek food! You want to go there for sunset so you can enjoy the views because they’re just oh-so breathtaking! We ended the night by having dinner at one of the local restaurants and headed back to the hotel for the night.

Day 2 & 3

Milos! One of my favorite destinations to this date! Its astonishing beaches and fresh seafood make you want to go back as soon as you leave the island.

How to get to Milos:

You can either fly or take a ferry to Milos, depending on where you’re coming from.

We took a ferry early in the morning. Here’s the website where we purchased our tickets: Let's Ferry

The ride itself was only two hours, but it took about 45 minutes to an hour for all of us to board and then some more to unboard. So you have to consider the time that you will spend on just transportation. The ferry had food and drinks for additional purchases. I recommend grabbing a book or some board/card games with you to kill time.

Island Transportation: Your arrival and departure are from the Milos Port, so that makes it easy for you to rent a car or an ATV directly from there. Renting a car or an ATV  in Milos is a must!  All the cars for rent are super small and old, so make sure the AC is working for your comfort if you choose that source.  Many people recommended renting an ATV because it’s easier to drive and park it, but we went with a car this time and saved an ATV for Oia.

* Before you decide to drive in a different county, make sure you have your international driver's license first! It only takes a few minutes at your local AAA. Oh, and don’t forget that the cars are stick shift there, or at least all the ones that we rented were!

Overnight Stay: We drove our little rental car to our Airbnb. The host was great, he even left us fruits, fresh bread, and breakfast! You can rent a hotel with a pool and nice views if you’d like, but we only came to the room to sleep, so it was perfect for us.

Things to Do: The main item you need to bring with you to Milos is swimsuits! Milos has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! Here are three that we visited and  100% recommend!

  •  Tsigrado Beach - I feel that I left my heart at this beach! The water was sooo clear and refreshing, and the fact that we had to go through a cliff with ropes and ladders made it so much more special!

  •  Fyriplaka Beach - The most tropical looking beach with beautiful water and you can buy food and drinks there too!

  • Sarakiniko Beach - The waves driven by North winds shape the grayish-white volcanic rocks into amazing shapes which makes it so unique and attractive! You feel like you landed right on the MOON! I'm still dreaming of going back!

We were only there for two days so more of the beaches we wish we had time to visit include:

Firapotomos Beach, Paliochori Beach, Kleftiko Caves, Paliochori Beach, Perissa Beach, and Papafragas Beach.

Where to Eat: If you know us, you know that we looove food! That’s actually one of the main reasons we love to travel, haha. Milos is known for its food, and I wish we had more time to visit many more of their shops and restaurants. Here are a few that I absolutely recommend!

  • Akrotiri Seafood Obsession - If you love seafood, this is just the place for you!

  • Angeliki - This place was a must in the evening when we were craving something sweet and some coffee/tea.

  • Hanabi - If you want to experience fresh sushi.

  • Psaravolada Restaurant - The traditional Greek food made us feel like we were locals.

  • Utopia Cafe - Come here for sunset. The views are spectacular and they had some of the best bruschettas ever!

We ended our Trip to Milos by watching the boats port from Milos Port and then jumped back on the ferry and were on our way to Oia.

Day 4, 5, 6 - Oia- Santorini

What comes to your mind when you hear “Santorini”? Probably the whitewashed, cube-shaped buildings adorned with blue accents, steep cliffs, and tangerine sunsets that light up the sky and the sea.  Well, that’s precisely how I dreamed of it, and that’s exactly what it was!

Where to Stay

We arrived at Santorini around 4pm, and went straight to our Airbnb, where the host met us and showed us around. There are many gorgeous hotels that you can stay at, but we love airbnbs and booked this super cute one! The views were stunning and there was even a jacuzzi for us to enjoy. We wish there was a pool because it gets so hot there, but it wasn’t a problem because it gave us the opportunity to explore the local beaches.

This is where we stayed

Do I need a car in Oia?

  • Oia is a pedestrian-only town, and you can see the whole town in a day if you wanted to.

Things to Do:

  • Would you want to feel like a princess running through the streets of Oia? Book a flying dress photoshoot! This was definitely a highlight of the trip for us and we get to look at these gorgeous pictures forever! You can book it on the spot, but just to be safe, I recommend booking it through Instagram before you go.  This is the photographer that took our pictures Santorini Photographer

Rent an ATV and drive to Seaside to a black sand beach, Stavros Beach VIllas, and get a massage at the beach. Then have lunch at Savvas Popeye. Here you can actually choose your own fish from the fridge and they will cook it for you! They had some of the best pasta I have ever tried!

  • Get lost while off-roading your ATV and find the coolest views! (Pass the Omma Hotel and you will see some of the most beautiful views.)

  • Book a yacht tour and visit some of the beaches. We booked this one Yacht Rent for $160 per person and they took us to 4 gorgeous beaches for us to swim at. The food and drinks were also included.

  • Don’t want to do too many adventurous things? If you want a day to rest and soak in the city, just wander through the charming streets during the day and watch the most magical sunset in the evening. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Oia is by far is one of the most crowded places that I’ve been to. Because the streets are so narrow, there's a very limited area for people to spread out to, especially when it’s time for sunset and everyone wants to get the best spot.

All in all, we had the best time in this country and can’t wait to revisit. I really hope my experience inspires you to travel to Greece and helps you plan your next trip there!
